1WEEK 1 OF 4Reproducible agentic dev environment foundations

Set up and compare AI coding environments such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and ChatGPT for real engineering work, then structure your preferred setup as reproducible engineering infrastructure. Learn how repo context, instruction files, pinned toolchains, MCP servers, permissions, hooks, and model limits affect output quality and safety.

WHAT YOU'LL BUILD

Set up an agent-ready repo and reproducible Claude Code environment: Nix flake, AGENTS.md / CLAUDE.md, Cursor rules, coding standards, restricted-file rules, permission settings, basic hooks, PR template, MCP server config, and a baseline benchmark across bug fix, test generation, refactor, documentation, and code review tasks.

YOU'LL BE ABLE TO

You can treat your AI development environment as real infrastructure: versioned, portable, testable, and safe to iterate. Your agent understands the repo, follows rules, respects boundaries, and produces output you can evaluate instead of blindly trusting.

2WEEK 2 OF 4MCP, agent skills, hooks, and guarded dev workflows

Extend coding agents with reusable capabilities, then wire those capabilities into development workflows safely. Build or connect MCP servers for code navigation, memory, documentation, and web search. Create agent skills/subagents for code review, test generation, documentation, dependency research, refactoring, and PR preparation. Then add hooks, CI checks, permission boundaries, and human approval gates so the agent can help without gaining uncontrolled authority.

WHAT YOU'LL BUILD

Create a reusable engineering agent workflow pack: one MCP integration, one reusable skill, one subagent, code-review skill, test-writer skill, docs-writer skill, refactor-planner skill, PR-summary skill, pre-hook checks for restricted files/secrets, post-hook validation, lint/test execution, changelog draft, and ticket update with human approval.

YOU'LL BE ABLE TO

You can move beyond one-off prompts into agent capability design. Your agents get tools, memory, docs, search, reusable skills, subagents, and guardrails that fit your real engineering workflow. The system can check, block, summarize, test, and route work without letting the agent run wild.

3WEEK 3 OF 4Agent evals, regression checks, and managed orchestration

Learn how to evaluate whether your engineering agents are actually useful, then connect those evaluations to managed agent workflows. Build evals for code review quality, test quality, documentation accuracy, security issue detection, prompt-injection resistance, and adherence to repo standards. Then learn planner-worker-reviewer orchestration, task routing, shared context, approval checkpoints, and a small intro to RAG for repo docs and internal knowledge.

WHAT YOU'LL BUILD

Build an eval-backed managed-agent prototype: planner agent → implementation/research agent → reviewer agent, with golden test cases, rubric scoring, one approval gate, CI-based checks, and a small RAG layer over repo documentation or internal docs.

You can measure whether agents are helping instead of guessing. You understand how evals, regression checks, orchestration, and retrieval grounding work together to make agent workflows more reliable.

4WEEK 4 OF 4Engineering Agent System capstone

Package everything into a controlled agentic engineering system for one real repo. Your capstone combines reproducible environment setup, repo instructions, MCP integrations, skills, subagents, hooks, guarded workflows, evals, orchestration, RAG grounding, and team usage documentation.

WHAT YOU'LL BUILD

Ship an Engineering Agent System for one repo: Nix flake or reproducible setup, AGENTS.md / CLAUDE.md, repo rules, MCP integrations, agent skills, subagents, hooks, guarded PR workflow, prompt-injection scan step, eval harness, CI checks, managed-agent workflow, RAG layer over repo/internal docs, review rubric, documentation workflow, and team usage guide.
